How Equipment Rentals Work

Datum Tech Solutions is an authorized Leica Geosystems dealer. We rent the same instruments we sell, service and calibrate, and we ship nationwide. This page covers what you get, how long you can keep it, and how to decide between renting and buying.

What is available

• GPS and GNSS rovers. Our most-rented equipment. Site positioning, control and layout, configured and ready to work when it arrives.
• 3D laser scanners and LiDAR. RTC360, BLK360, BLK2GO handheld, BLK2FLY, and the long-range ScanStation P-series.
• Robotic total stations. The Leica iCON Robot range for layout and as-built work, run by one person from the pole.

What comes with a rental

Every rental ships as a working kit, not a bare instrument: tripod, batteries, charger, targets and case, in a hard transport case. Equipment is calibrated before it leaves us, so the data you collect is defensible from day one.

If you have not run the instrument before, we walk you through setup before you are on site. Most people are productive on a BLK360 or an RTC360 inside an hour.

How long can you rent for

Daily, weekly and monthly. Longer terms cost less per day. If you end up buying, we will talk to you about applying rental spend toward the purchase, so ask when you book.

Rent or buy?

Below roughly a dozen project days a year, renting almost always wins once you account for calibration, software, and the cost of an instrument sitting in a cupboard. Above that, ownership starts to pay.

We will do that maths with you honestly. We would rather rent you the right thing twice than sell you the wrong thing once. Our buying guide has the full comparison.

If what you need is the data rather than the instrument, our crews travel to site and hand over the finished deliverable. Often that is cheaper than renting if you only scan a few times a year. See scanning services.
