How Equipment Rentals Work

Datum Tech Solutions is a Leica Geosystems Authorized Service and Distribution Partner. We rent the same instruments we sell, service and calibrate, and we ship nationwide. This page covers what you get, how long you can keep it, and how to decide between renting and buying.

What is available

• GPS and GNSS rovers. Our most-rented equipment. Site positioning, control and layout, configured and ready to work when it arrives.
• 3D laser scanners and LiDAR. RTC360, BLK360 and BLK2GO handheld.
• Robotic total stations. The Leica iCON Robot range for layout and as-built work, run by one person from the pole.

What comes with a rental

Every rental ships calibrated and ready to work as a complete kit: the instrument, batteries, charger and hard case, plus what you need to set it up.

• Laser scanners: the tripod is included (the GST80 carbon tripod with the RTC360, the BLK tripod and mission bag with the BLK360).
• Robotic total stations: the kit includes the tribrach and, when you need them, a field controller with iCON software and a prism pole.
• GPS rovers: the kit includes a field controller, pole and bipod.

Optional add-ons are quoted separately: an iPad for RTC360 field registration, network RTK corrections (SmartNet) for GPS rovers, the AP20 AutoPole, and Scan&Go mounts. Your quote lists exactly what ships, and we'll walk you through setup on request.

How long can you rent for

2 days, a week or a month, with a 2-day minimum. Longer terms cost less per day, and each kit on the rentals page shows its rates. If you end up buying, we will talk to you about applying rental spend toward the purchase, so ask when you book.

Rent or buy?

Below roughly a dozen project days a year, renting almost always wins once you account for calibration, software, and the cost of an instrument sitting in a cupboard. Above that, ownership starts to pay.

We will do that maths with you honestly. We would rather rent you the right thing twice than sell you the wrong thing once. Our buying guide has the full comparison.

Not sure you need the equipment at all?

If what you need is the data rather than the instrument, our crews travel to site and hand over the finished deliverable. Often that is cheaper than renting if you only scan a few times a year. See scanning services.
