GPR and Utility Locating Equipment
Hitting a buried line costs time, money and sometimes far more. Datum Tech Solutions is a Leica Geosystems Authorized Service and Distribution Partner for Leica utility detection equipment: ground penetrating radar (GPR) and electromagnetic cable locators that help crews find and map what's underground before they dig.
GPR or a cable locator?
Most crews end up using both, because they find different things:
- Cable locators (Leica DD SMART series) detect the electromagnetic signal from metallic pipes and energized cables. They're fast, portable and the everyday tool for locates.
- Ground penetrating radar (Leica DSX) sends radar into the ground and picks up reflections from buried objects, including non-metallic pipes such as PVC and concrete that a cable locator can't see.
Leica DSX utility detection system
The Leica DSX is built for crews who need answers on site, not after hours of post-processing. Its DXplore software turns the radar data into a map of detected utilities while you're still in the field. It comes in two kits:
- Starter Kit: the DSX, a CT1000 controller and DXplore Build for finding and marking utilities.
- Surveyor Kit: adds DXplore Survey and a pole support so detected utilities can be positioned and exported for mapping and design. Pair it with the Zeno FLX100 GNSS package to map utilities in real-world coordinates.
Both kits are available with perpetual or subscription software licenses.
