Get to Know Bryant Schwartz; East Coast Training Specialist for Datum Tech and Part-time Outdoorsman

We catch up with our East Coast Training Specialist, Bryant Schwartz and get to know how he came up in this industry, why the iCON lineup of robotic total stations are his go-to product and what he projects the future of this industry holds.
  • How did you start in the commercial construction space?

I got my start working as a summer hand during college. I quickly realized that I had a passion for complex, symbolic, and meaningful projects - the first of which was the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in Seattle.

  • What’s one thing you know now that you wish you could have known 5 years ago in your career?

How prevalent and important this technology would become in the vertical construction industry! Five years ago I was working for a general contractor, and I hadn’t had the chance to see just how valuable these technologies can be to a project. Had I known more then, I would have joined DTS sooner.

  • What is the most utilized tool for you?

For me, the iCON lineup of robotic total stations. I am a firm believer that this is the number one tool for maintaining quality and ensuring the correct placement of building entities on a project.

  • With all the latest tech and innovation in this space, what are you most looking forward to?

I am mostly looking forward to seeing what these technologies do to change the way that buildings are designed. Not just in the way that we construct them, such as innovations in modular design, but in the architecture itself. These tools allow for a more precise design/build workflow, which will allow us to build more complex, and beautiful projects for future generations to enjoy and draw inspiration from.

  • How long have you been working with Datum Tech and what’s your favorite part of working here?

As being one of DTS’s first employees - I have been here for nearly four years, my favorite part of the job is sharing with my work with people whom I consider family (and in some cases actually are). We get to work with industry-leading technology every day, and having customers who turn into great friends only bolsters the strength of that family. Without our amazing customers, there wouldn’t be a DTS, and we wouldn’t have a presence in the industry without them.

  • Besides flying drones what do you like doing in your free time?

I am an avid outdoorsman. I really enjoy exploring new places to go rock climbing, hiking, fishing, etc. I have been living near Washington D.C. now for almost two years, and exploring the city is still a favorite pastime.
