Datum Tech Solutions Teams Up With Schultheis Electric to Layout and Construct a New Solar Panel Field Using the New Icon 6.0 Software.
What do you do when you have been tasked with laying out and constructing a new solar panel field on a few acres of snow covered land next to a bustling turnpike? You turn to the experts at Datum Tech Solutions to provide equipment and training.
Schultheis Electric and Datum Tech Solutions utilized the latest release of iCON 6.0 software with the iCR70 robotic total station to quickly and effectively lay out 3,720 solar panels for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission’s latest project at the Greensburg Maintenance Microgrid Solar Panel Field. The project is slated for completion at the end of summer, 2021 and will produce around 1.3 Megawatts of power for the commission.
On a bitterly cold December morning, Bryant Schwartz and the team at Schulthies first stepped foot on site and were able to immediately visualize the new solar panel array. Even in the cold and snowy conditions, the reliable iCON 70 series robot quickly and accurately verified the location of solar panel supports - enabling what would normally be weeks of layout using traditional methods to a few hours of field work. This has already helped to identify problem areas for the project - as the original layout of the array did not fully fit in the site.
Quick builds taken with the iCON powered robot allowed the team to gather real world information back to the model - allowing for the BIM team to alter the configuration of the array so that it would fit within the boundaries of the worksite. This information was then loaded back into the iCON driven data collector out to the field where the change orders were successfully realized.
