Robotic Total Stations and Layout Instruments
A robotic total station lets one person do the work of two. The instrument locks onto the prism and follows you around the site while you work the controller, so layout, as-builts and machine control run with a one-person crew instead of two. Datum Tech Solutions is a Leica Geosystems Authorized Service and Distribution Partner. We sell, rent, service and calibrate the Leica iCON and Nova ranges, and our own crews use these instruments in the field.
What a robotic total station does
A total station measures angles and distances to a prism to fix points in the project coordinate system. A robotic total station adds a motorized drive and automatic tracking, so it turns and follows the prism by itself and you control it remotely from a field tablet. That is what makes one-person layout possible: you walk to each point, the instrument finds you, and the controller tells you where to go.
Robotic total stations for construction layout
On a building site the job is putting design points on the ground and checking what was built: anchor bolts, embeds, sleeves, grid lines, wall and slab edges. The design model or CAD file loads onto the controller, and the crew stakes points straight from it. Fewer people per setup, fewer transcription mistakes, and the same coordinates the design team works in.
Which instrument fits your work
- Leica iCON robot 60, 70 and 80: robotic total stations built for construction layout and one-person operation. The iCON robot 80 comes in several accuracy classes, so you pay for the precision your work needs.
- Leica iCON builder and iCON iCT30: construction total stations for crews that do not need automatic tracking.
- Leica Nova MS60 MultiStation: a robotic total station with built-in laser scanning, for work that needs both precise points and scan data.
- Field controllers: Leica iCON rugged tablets and controllers that run the layout software.
- Certified used instruments: Trimble and Sokkia robotic total stations as they come through on trade, alongside used Leica instruments.
Buy, rent, train and calibrate
Buying makes sense when layout is steady work. Renting works for a single project or a trial before you buy; see robotic total station rentals. We train crews on the instruments we sell (total station training), and our Boise service center keeps them in tolerance (total station calibration).
