Meet Tyler Hughes: Technology Specialist and Pacific Northwest Adventurer

Get to know our Technology Specialist, Tyler Hughes, and how he got started working in the industry. We catch up with him to chat about total station technology and 3D laser scanning solutions and how he's enjoying living in the Pacific Northwest.

How did you get started as a Technology Specialist in the construction industry?

Coming from a family with a construction background, it was a no brainer to give it a shot. I reached out to Stan when he was in Florida at the time, helped 3D scan a job site and was hooked from that point. Before I knew it, I was in Seattle and training on all of our equipment and software.

What's the greatest lesson you've learned after working in this industry?

Having a plan and executing that plan is crucial in making a job run smoothly and successfully.

During the current global pandemic, how has your role changed, and what changes have you seen in the industry?

During this time, I have been using my creativity to come up with unique ways to reach new markets working remotely. There are a few parts of the industry that have slowed down, but overall it's still moving along with a big focus on worker's health.

How long have you been working with Datum Tech, and what's your favorite part about working here?

I have been working for Datum Tech Solutions for almost one year now. The best part about working here is being surrounded by good people, and the ability to let my creativity run free and bring new ideas to the team.

What is your favorite Datum Tech Solutions product to use, and why?

I really enjoy running our ICON robotic total stations. The field side of things is what I enjoy most, no better feeling than seeing your work come to life as the project progresses, and getting your hands dirty.

What are your favorite things to do in the Pacific Northwest?

I am a big outdoors person, and I have been really enjoying riding my mountain bike as I do have a little bit of an adrenaline addiction, so the mountains are always calling my name. As much as I love the mountains like most out here, I also enjoy Scuba diving in the cold water up here as well.
